NHVR Report: New national penalties and infringements coming Sept.1

The introduction of the new national law on 1 September means that for the first time, drivers, operators and others in the supply chain will be subject to the same penalties for breaking the law regardless of where they operate in Australia. This will promote consistent enforcement across the country.

Liebherr Group constructs world’s tallest crawler crane

Mining manufacturer Liebherr Group says it has constructed the world’s tallest conventional crawler crane, standing at a height of almost 250 metres. According to the company, the crawler crane’s main mast stands at 120 metres, while the luffing jib stands at 126 metres. It stood at 248 metres when it was first set up in July.

A company spokesman said 400 tonnes of slewing platform ballast and 1,500 tonnes of derrick ballast were placed on the machine on a special foundation.

22k Scholarship Opportunity for developing Female Leaders in the Resources Sector

Women & Leadership Australia will be awarding a $22,000 scholarship to one woman from the resources sector to fully fund her participation in the Advanced Leadership Program (ALP). Developed by a consortium of educational bodies and industry experts, the ALP is part of a national initiative to support the advancement of high potential women across all sectors and industries.

The initiative comprises a range of professional development programs, advisory services, and research endeavours. Since its inaugural forum in 2003, over 40,000 women have participated, making WLA Australia’s peak leadership initiative for women.

NBN Training Kits to Support Small Businesses and Not For Profits

Small to medium businesses and non-profit organisations in the social and community services, arts, recreation and education sectors will soon be able to access tailored advice on how to build their business and improve their services using the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Parliamentary Secretary for Broadband Ed Husic said “Organisations need targeted information and an understanding of how successful organisations in their sector are using the internet and online tools to take full advantage of the NBN.”
